This picture broke my heart knowing the horrible agony and murder awaiting these Jewish men, women, and children. It’s almost too sick to believe it is a real photo, but it is, taken by German propaganda. Their title of the photo is “To the Transshipping Place.” That is typical Orwellian doublespeak for “To the Wagons/ Death Camps.”

About kinneret
Hello, and welcome.
I'm writing this blog under an alias. Why an alias?
I started to write what may be described as an "American Gothic" novel (sort of Henry James/ Franz Kafka with violence) with some autobiographical details. ..when I started this blog I just decided to use the alias.
This blog is about art and art history, but my interests also include literature, film analysis, psychology, forensic psychology, faerie tale analysis, cognitive therapy, cognitive linguistics, classical theater, World War II, and Russian and British history. My favorite writers include Kafka, the Brontes, and Philip K Dick. Thank you for reading this blog and I will happily reply to any comments.
Their faces so human in the face of such inhumanity.
So so crazy sad…
This photograph is why great photography should be appreciated by all ages. Truth is evident, cannot be denied. Other artists present what their emotions want presented in ways they wish; photographers without photoshopping can select subject but cannot misrepresent it.
Reblogged this on necltr and commented:
A display of history given us through excellent technical skill, timing, and moral judgment. All the people in that photograph are with us today, and they most probably are generally not Jews, not Germans. “Forward” is really forward, and “Progress” is not ahead for those who would “progress” to it today.
yes, agree, and i have read a lot about the Holocaust and the number and scope and diversity of sadistic torments had no end or limit.
Whenever I look at this picture I always imagine the whole scene as it was then you know there is this german guy who is just taking the picture maybe he turns around snaps another shot, there is this little girl who is walking with her mom maybe grandma, this girl has been surviving in the ghetto for three years she was probably a little toddler when she brought to the ghetto, ghetto is her normal she doesn’t have any memory of the outside world and she will never have…these pictures are the only thing that says “we were here and we lived here”…
thank you. that is a great comment.
