Disconcerting little chicks

Another morbid piece of kitsch from Stew Leonard’s. What depraved person thinks these up? Here are the chicks in the egg carton. I guess they are selling you the eggs, although the eggs and chicks are ALSO situated over a sign that says CHICKEN POT PIE. Hmm. Unfortunately, even when we consider eggs–they are not so innocent  as the image suggests. I mean the truth of eggs being unfertilized…well, you know where I’m going with this. (and I am not a vegan nor even entirely a vegetarian, but I sort of understand the vegans’ point of view.) The objectification of animals here and the semiotic (lie) of “cute happy animals” (when we know animals are NOT treated well in the food industry) are jarring.

About kinneret

Hello, and welcome. I'm writing this blog under an alias. Why an alias? I started to write what may be described as an "American Gothic" novel (sort of Henry James/ Franz Kafka with violence) with some autobiographical details. ..when I started this blog I just decided to use the alias. This blog is about art and art history, but my interests also include literature, film analysis, psychology, forensic psychology, faerie tale analysis, cognitive therapy, cognitive linguistics, classical theater, World War II, and Russian and British history. My favorite writers include Kafka, the Brontes, and Philip K Dick. Thank you for reading this blog and I will happily reply to any comments.
